Atmosphere
Modern, with a few traditional Japanese features that give it a warm feeling. But this is not a place that you come to for the decor, it's all about the food!!! It's not a big restaurant, the building is very narrow, so I'd say their capacity is only about 40 or so and it's usually fairly full, so it's worth booking. The last few times I've been there I've noticed Japanese people at other tables, which is always a good sign.

Food
I've been to Mitsuno about five times and I don't think I've ever had a dish that wasn't fantastic. Last time I was here with the parents they ordered only entrees. I was sceptical at first, thinking that I might have to go to Maccas afterwards, but it was actually quite filling in the end, accompanied by rice and miso soup. The servings are small (as you would expect for Japanese anyway), but they are so good that you actually feel like you're getting value for money. Absolute knockout dishes (backed up by my Japanese housemate and her mum):
-Wagyu beef carpaccio and the wagyu beef yakiniku
-Sashimi with capers etc
-Sukiyaki (a main course- the sukiyaki beef is served rolled up with spring onion and egg inside, as opposed to the traditional beef in soup. Japanese housemate and her mum had never seen it done this way, but thought it was brilliant. I think it's a Mitsuno invention.)
Finally you have got to try the home made sorbet. If I were married I'd trade in my wife just for one serve- coconut, blood orange, green tea and shiso (or something like that- it's a Japanese herb) flavours.

Service
The waitresses are always smiling and are genuinely helpful. It's so nice to come to a restaurant where the staff don't give you the impression that they'd rather be at the dentist than serving you. Make sure you're thirsty before you come because your glass gets refilled every time you put it down! The owner's name is Mitsuno and she is a lovely lady. Every time we leave the restaurant Mitsuno actually walks us to the door, one last special touch on what is always a magical exprience.
