About Restaurant Rants
RestaurantRants was established in 2004 in times where there was a perceived lack of any forum
for ordinary punters to voice their opinions on Melbourne's thriving dining scene.
Unlike many restaurant directory and review websites, RestaurantRants does not seek to be the
White Pages of restaurants. RestaurantRants is different because:
- we do not value two or three line reviews
- we don’t expose our valued community to unnecessary ads
- we want our community to be just that – a community
Our reviews
We ask our community to write more than a few lines in their reviews. In fact, a review won’t be accepted
unless it has some more substance. Why? When we read a review, we don’t want to know that the restaurant
had "great food, but bad service". We want to know why; after all, knowing why makes all the difference.
For those instances where our community members don't have time to write a real review, we encourage
them to use our Rapid Rating system and to write a real review soon.
We also encourage our community members to write positive reviews. Negative reviews may get things of our chests,
but positive reviews will make us feel better – promise! Remember how you felt when your boss said "good job!"?
Ads
RestaurantRants will never run banner ads that are not personally placed on the site. There is no point having
our valued community members subjected to advertisements on new cars, holidays, lotteries and smiley icons
when they're looking for restaurants. However, where we feel our community members should be aware of a
new foodie product or service, we will always draw your attention to it. It’s good to be the first in the know!
Community
RestaurantRants wants our community members and visitors to have fun and to keep coming back
to the website. Our website now features a foodie events calendar to make it easier for you
organise parties or dinners with your friends.
We know that there are other restaurant listing and review websites out there and we encourage
you to use them. We even want our valued restaurants to link to any external reviews, even on
our competitors’ websites. We are a community and we should share and act like one.
If you like what we do, join our community. Registration gives you access to better search features,
the ability to write reviews and to access our voucher system.
